Leverkusen, April 13, 2011 – Dr. Günter Bachlechner (54) is to be appointed the new Head of Research at Bayer Technology Services (BTS). Bachlechner, currently Head of Research Technologies at Bayer CropScience, Research, is transferring to BTS on June 1, 2011. He will take over the Process Technology division as the successor to Dr. Helmut Mothes, who retires July 1, 2011.
“Dr. Bachlechner has profound experience in the areas of development and technology, and possesses special qualities that are key to the focused expansion of portfolio and thus of our future business,” said BTS Managing Director Dr. Dirk Van Meirvenne. He thanked Mothes for his very successful work, which played a major role in shaping the global reputation of BTS. Among the things that Mothes implemented during his tenure at BTS was the concept of technology platforms, such as Catalysis or Biotechnology. New programs characterized by their raw material and energy efficiency were also developed under his leadership. Mothes established Open Innovation as a strategic tool and partnered with renowned research institutions and universities throughout the world.
Bachlechner was born in Villach, Austria, in 1956, and studied chemistry at the University of Vienna, where he also obtained his doctorate and served as Assistant. He began his Bayer career in 1987 with Bayer Crop Protection, Environmental Research, in Monheim (Germany). He joined Portfolio Management as a project manager in 1994; in 2000 he was appointed Operating Officer and Head of the Development Division at Nihon Bayer Agrochem in Tokyo, Japan. He then worked in Industrial Operations at Bayer CropScience before returning to Research, where he has been responsible for Research Product Technology since 2004 and Research Technologies since 2011.
Bachlechner is married with three children.
